About the coffee

All the details you need to know

About the farm

This coffee comes from Dembi in Ethiopia’s Sidama region, where around 1,200 smallholder farmers contribute cherries throughout the harvest season. Sitting between 1,950 and 2,500 metres above sea level, the area benefits from cool temperatures and fertile highland soils that allow coffee cherries to ripen slowly and develop exceptional complexity. Coffee is carefully handpicked at peak ripeness before being delivered for processing.

Variety & Processing

Like many of Ethiopia’s most distinctive coffees, this lot is made up of indigenous heirloom varieties. Rather than a single cultivar, it represents a diverse genetic heritage that contributes to the floral aromatics, layered fruit character and remarkable complexity that Ethiopian coffees are celebrated for.
The coffee is naturally processed. After harvest, ripe cherries are sorted, floated to remove defects and dried slowly on raised beds for around 18 days before resting prior to milling. This extended drying period allows the fruit sugars to fully interact with the seed, creating a coffee with pronounced sweetness, rich berry character and a silky, fruit-driven profile.

In the cup

Berry Crush opens with notes of cooked berries and ripe stone fruit, followed by a gentle amaretto-like sweetness. The acidity is bright and citric yet mellow, supporting a juicy mouthfeel and a lingering fruit sweetness that carries through to the finish. Vibrant, playful and unmistakably Ethiopian.
